Since we are just changing the content, we are going to delete the dummy text in the resume and replace it with our information.

  4. Change the Text

Using Canva for resume design is straightforward

First you can click on the text boxes to highlight the text. Then delete the text and fill it in with what you want. Lastly deselect the text box and you are done.

The fonts are installed in each template, but you can change them. In this example we did not bother with changing the typeface.

Canva uses Google fonts for its designs. Canva Pro users can upload their own fonts.

  5. Optional: Change the Font

First you want to select your font. Then go up to the font window where it names the font you are using. In this case it’s Raleway. We want to change it to a display font.

Can scroll down the list of fonts until you find the right one. Or if you have a style, or font in mind, you can type it in the search box at the top of the font list.

When you click on a font, the text in the box will automatically change. In this example we changed the font from Raleway to Abril Fatface.

  6. Optional: Change the Colors

    1. Select the item in the resume that you want to change the color of. In this case, it’s the color in the header of the resume.

When you select the item, a color box appears in the toolbar. The font list appeared here in the previous step.

    2. Click on the light teal color square to pop open the color menu. You can choose from preset colors by clicking on a colored square, or you can select a custom color by clicking on the rainbowy square.

    3. When you click on the rainbowy square, a color picker appears. You can use a hexcode for a specific color.

You can use a slider to choose a color, which is what we did here. The box changes color as you slide the slider.

    4. In this example, we chose a color preset, a bright yellow.

  7. Save and Download Your Resume

Canva has several format options. It will suggest the best one for your project if you aren’t sure. Download your resume as a print-quality PDF.

If you need to make changes, you’ll have to change the document in Canva and download it again.

Or if you have access to a PDF editor, you can edit the resume that way.
